Kande Pohe-Poha-Aval Recipes-Quick Breakfast Recipe

Kande Pohe is a very popular Maharashtrian breakfast, which can also be had as an evening snack. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so it is not advisable to skip breakfast due to lack of time. I always have aval or poha at home as it comes handy when we need a quick breakfast. It is healthy and takes only 10-15 minutes to prepare this dish. Today we will learn how to make Kande Pohe following this easy recipe.

Kande Pohe Recipe 

Prep time – under 5 mins
Cook time – under 10 mins
Serves – 1-2

Ingredients needed

Poha /flattened rice/aval -1 cup
Onion -1
Green chilli -1 finely chopped
Turmeric powder – a pinch
Fresh Lemon juice to taste

For seasoning 

Oil – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Cumin seeds/jeera – 1/2 tsp
Roasted peanuts – 2-3 tbsp
Asafoetida/hing – a pinch
Curry leaves – few

For garnishing

Fresh grated coconut
Finely chopped coriander leaves

Preparation 

Wash poha in water 2-3 times and drain it in a colander. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes. It will become soft by that time. Fluff it with a fork and keep it aside.

Finely chop onion and green chillies.

Method

Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add cumin seeds, roasted peanuts, hing and curry leaves. Saute for 2-3 seconds.

Then add onions, green chilli and saute until onions turn transparent. Add turmeric powder and salt needed.

Add poha, sprinkle a little water and cook for 2-3 minutes covered.

Remove from heat and add lemon juice to taste. Garnish with coriander leaves, fresh grated coconut and serve hot.

Note – If  preferred, you can add a tsp of sugar. Since I do not like, I did not add.
