Tomato Thokku-Thakkali Thokku

Tomato Thokku is so versatile that it goes well as a side dish for idly, dosa, adai, upma, chapati, all parathas, curd rice, samosas, vada, as a spread for sandwich, can be mixed with plain hot rice etc. It is so easy to make, taste delicious and can be stored in the refrigerator for nearly 10-15 days. I make this often. We all love it so much, that it will vanish in just 2 days. Today let us learn how to make tomato thokku following this easy tomato thokku recipe-


How to prepare Tomato thokku

Tomato – 1/2 kg
Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tsp (optional)
Oil – 3 tbsp
Hing – a generous pinch
Chilli powder – 2 tsp
Turmeric powder – a pinch
Salt as required

Preparation

Bring water to boil. Put the tomatoes in boiling water, switch off the flame and keep it closed for 10 minutes.

Remove the skin. After it cools, put it in a blender and puree it.

Method

Heat oil in a kadai , add mustard seeds and hing. When mustard splutters, add tomato puree, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, chilli powder and salt required.


Cook covered in medium flame, stirring in between, till the mixture oozes out oil.

Store it in a bottle or container and refrigerate it. Always use dry spoon to take the thokku.

Note

If preferred, you can add 1/4 tsp of roasted fenugreek powder in the end and mix it.

Use ripe and juicy tomatoes for preparing this thokku.
