Kohlrabi Stir Fry-Noolkol Poriyal Recipe

Kohlrabi is known as “Noolkol” in Tamil. Kohlrabi is packed with beneficial nutrients and antioxidants. It is high in dietary fiber and low in calories, so good for weight loss also. Kohlrabi Stir Fry-Noolkol Poriyal

   Ingredients needed

   Kohlrabi/Noolkol – 4 small ones
   Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
   Salt needed
   Coconut – 1/4 cup grated (fresh or frozen)

   For the Seasoning

   Oil – 2 tsp
   Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
   Urad dal – 1 tsp
   Red Chilli – 1
   Green Chilli – 1
   Hing – a pinch
   Curry leaves – a sprig

Preparation


Wash and peel the skin of kohlrabi. Grate it and keep it aside.

Method


Heat oil in  a pan, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add urad dal, hing, red chilli, green chilli and curry leaves.


When urad dal turns golden brown, add the grated kohlrabi and turmeric powder.


Sprinkle water and cook covered stirring in between. Add salt to taste.


Once the vegetable becomes tender, add grated coconut, mix well and remove from heat.


Serve delicious kohlrabi stir fry/noolkol poriyal as an accompaniment for rice.
