Konda Kadalai Sundal Recipe-Kala Channa Sundal

As Navratri is approaching, I am posting this easy sundal recipe with brown channa or kondai kadalai (Garbanzo Beans in English). Kondakadalai has many health benefits. It is a good source of protein and fiber. As it is rich in fiber, it keeps you fuller for a longer time and thereby aids in weight loss also. It can be had as an evening snack and can be given to kids after they get back from school. Today we will learn how to make channa sundal following this easy recipe.

   Ingredients needed

   Brown Channa/Kondaikadalai -1/2 cup
   Grated coconut -1/4 cup

Wash and soak kala channa overnight or for 6-7 hours. Pressure cook with a little water and salt for 3 whistles or until soft.

Once the pressure is released, open the cooker. In case, if there is water in the channa, drain it and keep it aside.

Heat oil in a pan/kadai, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add urad dal, when dal turns golden brown, add red chillies, hing and curry leaves.

Saute for a second and add the cooked channa without water. Saute for 2-3 minutes until it is well coated with the seasoning. Add salt if needed.

Then add grated coconut, mix well and remove from flame.
