Bisibelabath powder is a dry spice mix used for making the popular Karnataka Bisibelebath. Homemade bisibelebath powder is very flavorful as fresh ingredients are roasted and powdered. It is also economical and free of any preservatives. Let’s see how to make bisibelebath powder.

Bisibelabath Powder is a spice mix prepared for making the popular Karnataka special Bisibelebath. Homemade bisibelebath powder is very flavorful and economical. It is also very easy to make.

Ingredients
Ingredients needed
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1 tbsp Coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp Urad dal
  • 2 tsp Bengal gram/Channa Dal (kadalai paruppu)
  • 1/2 tsp Fenugreek seeds (vendhayam)
  • 1 Cardamom
  • 1 inch Cinnamon
  • 2 Cloves
  • 6-7 Dry red chillies
  • 1 tsp Khus khus (kasa kasa)
  • 1/2 cup Dry coconut (kopra)
Instructions
  1. Heat 1 tsp of oil and saute coriander seeds, bengal gram dal, urad dal, fenugreek seeds, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and red chillies.

  2. Saute until dal starts to change color.

  3. Add khus khus and saute for few seconds on low heat.

  4. Add the dry coconut and saute for few minutes on low heat, stirring continuously.

  5. Turn off the heat and leave it to cool.

  6. Then powder it slightly coarse.

  7. Use it to make bisibelebath. You can prepare this a day ahead, so that it will be easier to make bisibelebath.

Storage and shelf life - Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Keeps well for 10-15 days.

    can I use fresh coconut instead of dry coconut?
