Broccoli Stir Fry Recipe-(Vegetarian)

August 11, 2013 by PadhuSankar 10 Comments

This is a very simple stir fry recipe prepared with broccoli in Indian style. This stir fry goes best with rice. Broccoli is considered to be one of the most nutritious vegetable with numerous health benefits. According to whfoods “Amongst all of the commonly consumed cruciferous vegetables, broccoli stands out as the most concentrated source of a premiere antioxidant nutrient – vitamin C. It is also a good source of vitamin A (mostly as beta-carotene), folic acid, calcium, and fiber. Today we will learn how to prepare Broccoli stir fry following this easy recipe.

Broccoli Stir Fry

How to make Broccoli Stir Fry (Vegetarian)

Prep time – under 5 mins
Cook time – under 15 mins
Serves – 3

Ingredients needed

Garlic – minced 1 tbsp
Onion – thinly sliced – 1 cup
Broccoli – 4 cups medium sized florets

Chilli powder – 1 tsp
Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste

For the seasoning

Oil – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp

Preparation

Wash and cut broccoli into small sized florets.

Method

Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add garlic and saute for a few seconds.

Add thinly sliced onions and saute until onions turn translucent.

Add chilli powder, salt, coriander powder and saute for a few seconds so that the raw flavor goes.

Then add broccoli, mix well, cover and cook on low flame. Sprinkle water and cook stirring in between for even cooking.

Broccoli gets cooked faster, so take care not to over cook the vegetable. It should retain its crunchiness. (Overcooking also destroys its nutrients).
Serve broccoli stir fry as a side dish for rasam, sambar, kuzhambu or curd rice.

Note – You can substitute sambar powder instead of chilli and coriander powder.

Not necessary. Just wash the broccoli florets well with warm water and add it directly. It gets cooked faster.
