Sesame Seeds Laddu Recipe-Til Ladoo-Easy Ellu Urundai Recipe

December 5, 2014 by PadhuSankar 8 Comments

This sesame laddu/ellu laddu is very easy to make, flavorful and packed with many nutrients. All you need is just 2 ingredients to make this simple laddu. I have added peanuts to give the laddu some texture. Sesame seeds have numerous health benefits. According to the website nutritionandyou- ‘sesame seeds are valuable sources of dietary protein with fine quality amino acids that are essential for growth, especially in children’. Sesame seeds are  rich in vitamins and minerals. They are very good sources of B-complex vitamins such as niacin, folic acid, thiamin (vitamin B1), pyridoxine (vitamin B6), and riboflavin. They have antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer as well as many health promoting properties. Sesame seeds also helps in regulating menstrual cycles. I love the nutty flavor of sesame seeds and use it liberally in cooking. I love adding roasted and crushed sesame seeds to curries, stir fry, soups, porridge and salads. I have posted another method of making ellu urundai with white sesame seeds using jaggery syrup long time back. Today we will learn how to make ellu laddu/til laddu following this easy recipe.

   Ingredients needed

Sesame seeds/ellu (black or white)- 1 cup
   Jaggery – 1/2 cup
   Roasted Peanuts -1/2 cup (optional)

Preparation

Dry roast sesame seeds until it sizzles and you get a nice nutty flavor of roasted sesame seeds.

Powder jaggery. (you can get good quality powdered organic jaggery in health stores)

Roast peanuts and powder it coarsely. If using roasted peanuts, skip this step.

Method

Grind sesame seeds coarsely and add powdered jaggery to it. Dry grind both together until well combined. Transfer it to a plate, add coarsely ground peanuts and mix everything well.

Easy Ellu Urundai Recipe

Make balls and store it in an air tight container. You do not have to add ghee as the oil content in the sesame seeds helps to bind the laddus well.

Shelf life – It stays good for a week if handled properly.

    Hi,

I don't get powder jaggery here (Chicago, US). What another way I can make it? Can I use grated or sliced jaggery?

    Thanks!

It depends upon the quality of jaggery. I assume that you have ground it too much.

Yes and you should not operate the mixie continuously. If you do so it will become a paste and stick to your mouth.
