Cornflour Halwa is also known as Karachi Halwa or Bombay Halwa. It is prepared with corn flour, sugar and ghee. As Diwali is round the corner, I wanted to share with you some easy sweet and snack recipes. Today we will learn how to make Cornflour halwa following this easy recipe with step wise pictures.
Grease a baking tin or stainless steel plate (with high sides) with ghee and keep it ready.
Mix cornflour with 1 cup of water without any lumps. Add food color and mix well.
Mix sugar and water well first. Then switch on the heat. Add lemon juice and boil on medium heat stirring from time to time.
Let the sugar dissolve. When it starts bubbling, switch off the heat. Add the cornflour mixture gradually with one hand and keep stirring with your other hand.
Now switch on the heat/gas stove.
Cook stirring continuously on medium heat. When it starts thickening, add ghee, cardamom powder and cashew nuts.
Cook until the mixture becomes glossy and leaves the sides of the pan.
Pour the halwa into a greased tray and allow it to set.
Once set, cut it into squares and enjoy!!
