Kerala Parippu Curry-Kerala Dal curry

Parippu curry is a traditional dish of Kerala which is also a part of Onam sadhya. It is the first main course in the traditional onam sadhya.This Kerala style Dal curry using coconut tastes delicious with hot rice topped with ghee. Today let us learn how to prepare Kerala Parippu curry following this easy Parippu curry recipe.

Parippu Curry

 Prep Time : 5 mins

 Cook Time : 15 mins 
 Serves:  2
 Recipe Category: Side dish

   Ingredients needed

   Cheruparippu-Moong dal(split yellow variety) -1/2 cup
   Turmeric powder – a pinch
   Salt as required

   For grinding

   Grated coconut – 1/4 cup
   Cumin seeds /Jeeragam – 1/2 tsp
   Green chilli – 2

   For the seasoning

   Ghee – 2 tbsp
   Mustard – 3/4 tsp
   Red chilli – 1
   Curry leaves – few

Preparation

Grind grated coconut, cumin seeds and green chilli to a smooth paste. Keep it aside.

Method

Pressure cook dal with just enough water adding salt and turmeric powder. Mash it well.

Add ground paste to the mashed dal along with a cup of water. Boil and then simmer for a few minutes. Check for salt.

Heat ghee, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add red chilli, curry leaves and saute for a few seconds. Pour this seasoning over the parippu curry.

Enjoy Kerala Style Parippu curry with hot steamed rice topped with ghee and pappadams.
