Kaya mezhukkupuratti is a simple and flavorful dish from Kerala prepared with raw banana. This stir fry goes well with rice. I personally love to have it with rasam rice. Today we will learn how to make Kerala style raw banana stir fry following this easy recipe.
Pulse shallots, garlic and red chilli in a mixer just for a second. Keep it aside.
Peel the skin of raw banana and cut it into cubes. Bring water to boil (just enough water to cover the raw banana), add turmeric powder, salt needed and the chopped raw banana.
Cook the raw banana until soft but not mushy. Take care not to over cook the banana. Once cooked, strain the excess water and keep it aside.
Heat coconut oil, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add curry leaves and the ground onion + garlic + red chilli mixture.
Saute until onions turn transparent.
Add the cooked raw banana, pepper powder and cook on medium heat for another few minutes. Check for salt. If preferred, you can drizzle a tsp of coconut oil over the stir fry.
Vazhakka Mezhukkupuratti is ready to be served with rice. Enjoy making this very easy and simple stir fry with raw banana.
