Orzo Tomato Pasta with Bell Pepper-Healthy Orzo Pasta Recipe

Orzo Tomato Pasta is a quick dish prepared with orzo pasta. Orzo pasta is a rice shaped Italian pasta. It resembles a large grain of rice. Orzo pasta is great for making different pilaf, salads and soups. Today we will learn how to make a simple and quick tomato bell pepper pasta using orzo pasta and Indian spices.

   Ingredients needed

   Orzo Pasta – 3/4 cup
   Olive Oil – 1 1/2 tbsp
   Onion – 1
   Garlic – 3-4 cloves minced
   Green Chilli – 1 slit
   Carrot – 1
   Tomato – 2 big
   Red Bell pepper – 1/4 cup chopped
   Yellow Bell pepper – 1/4 cup chopped
   Green Bell pepper – 1/4 cup chopped

   Spice Powder

   Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp
   Coriander powder – 1 tsp
   Chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
   Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
   Salt needed

   For Garnishing

   Coriander Leaves

How to cook Orzo Pasta 


Bring plenty of slightly salted water to boil in a pot. Reduce the heat to medium, add orzo pasta to the boiling water and stir. Boil again and cook (for about 8-10 minutes) stirring from time to time until the pasta is soft but not mushy.

Once cooked, drain the water and keep it aside.

Method 


Heat oil in a pan, add finely chopped onion, green chilli and garlic. Saute until onions turn transparent.

Add chopped carrot and cook for a few minutes.

Add chopped tomatoes, all the spice powders mentioned under ‘Spice Powder’ and salt needed.

One Pot Orzo tomatoes

Cook covered. Once the tomato becomes soft, add all the colored chopped bell peppers.

Healthy Orzo Pasta Recipe

Cook for few minutes (do not overcook the bell peppers) and then add the drained and cooked pasta.

Mix well, check for salt and garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot.

    instead of spice powder why not use sambar powder which is readily available in any south Indian household?

      I got it from Italy. You can use any pasta in place of that. You can try in Amma nana in Chennai.
