Chilli Dosa-Indian Kids Recipe

August 12, 2012 by PadhuSankar 24 Comments

I have named it chilli dosa as capsicum is highlight of this dish. My children are very fond of this and always ask me for it. Trust me, it will be a sure hit not only with kids but also with adults. You can make this with leftover idli or dosa batter.Your kids might be bored of eating the regular uthappams or dosas, so why not prepare this capsicum dosa for a change. Now to the recipe-

Chilli dosa-leftover recipes

Capsicum Dosa (kids recipe)

Prep time – under 20 mins
Cook time – under 20 mins
Serves -1-2

Ingredients needed

Thick spongy dosas -3
Onion -2
Tomato -2
Green chilli – 1 finely chopped (optional)
Ginger – a small bit finely chopped
Capsicum – 1 medium
Red chilli powder – 3/4 -1 tsp
Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
Kitchen king masala or garam masala powder – 1/4 tsp
Salt as required
Oil – 1 1/2 tbsp

Preparation

Cut dosa into small pieces and keep it aside.

Chop onions and tomatoes finely. Cut capsicum into medium size pieces.

Method

Heat oil, add onions, green chilli, ginger and saute till onions turn translucent.

Then add tomatoes, chilli powder, turmeric powder and cook till tomatoes become mushy.

Now add capsicum, kitchen king masala and cook for a few more minutes.Do not overcook the capsicum. The capsicum should retain its crunchiness. Add salt needed.

Now add the dosa bits and mix well till the dosa gets coated with the masala.

Serve warm and your child is going to enjoy it for sure. You do not have to prepare any side dish for this.

Refer idli dosa batter recipe if required.

    Ms. Padhu,

What is garam masala? Is it what we also call curry podi? Could I use instead sambhar podi? If not, would you care to tell me if I can find ready made. I live in the US and I am a native of Chennai (born and bred and went to Loyola college. My wife is an American and she has learned a lot of Indian cooking and cooks reasonably well. We are strict vegetarians.

    Dear Educationist
Curry podi is not the same as garam masala powder. Garam masala is a blend of ground spices. You can use sambar powder but that will be less spicy and will give you a different taste. Ready made garam masala powder is available in all provision shops here in India .I have no idea about US
