Tips to prevent Cancer and Awards

March 1, 2010 by PadhuSankar 53 Comments

Wish You all a Very Happy Women’s day

Tomorrow (March 8th) is not only International Women’s Day, for me it is also my Father’s Birthday. He was my source of inspiration and taught me so many things. He taught me to love others, he taught me to be patient, taught me to be persistent in what I do, gave me the courage, mental strength to face tough situations in life. If not for him I will not be what I am today. Today he is not with me, I lost him to Cancer. I am dedicating this post in remembrance of him. The information given here are collected from here ,here, here ,here here and here .I have summarized a few very important tips so that it will be useful for others. Those who want to know more in detail can check out the above links.

Many factors play a role in cancer development, but the good news is that most can be avoided. Few tips are given below-

1.Include fruits and vegetables in your diet–

A diet rich in fruits and vegetables greatly reduces your risk of developing cancer and many other conditions, presumably because of the beta-carotene content. Fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants, which help repair our damaged cells. Green, orange and yellow fruits and vegetables are your best bet to help prevent cancer. Studies also show that dark fruits, like blueberries and grapes, may also have anti-cancer properties.

2.Include Garlic in your diet

Garlic contains sulfur compounds that may stimulate the immune system’s natural defenses against cancer, and may have the potential to reduce tumor growth.

3.Drink lot of water as water flush your toxins

Drink lot of water to flush out toxins from the body. Do not drink or use chlorinated water. Chlorine by products trigger the production of free radicals in the body causing cell damage and are highly carcinogenic. According to the U.S. Council Of Environmental Quality, “Cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine.”

4.Take up a tea habit

The healing powers of green tea have been valued in Asia for thousands of years. In the West, new research reveals that it protects against a variety of cancers as well as heart disease. Some scientists believe that a chemical in green tea called EGCG could be one of the most powerful anticancer compounds.

5. Exercise regularly

Studies show that regular exercise can lower a person’s risk of developing of cancer. While researchers don’t know why individuals who regularly exercise have lower rates of cancer, they believe it may be because exercise helps to control body fat, stimulate the immune system, and alter the balance of certain hormones.

6.Limit saturated fat intake

Fats are a necessary part of our diet but high-fat diets can increase our risk of cancer, heart disease and other conditions.Try not to eat too many fatty foods. In particular, try to cut down on saturated fats as contained in fatty meat, biscuits, crisps, cheese and butter.Saturated fats found in marbled meat and high-fat dairy products are more likely to increase risk of breast cancer than unsaturated fats found in nuts, seeds and avocados, as well as olive and canola oils. Try to avoid frying food in lots of oil – try steaming, braising or lightly grilling instead.

7. Minimize using salt and sugar, Maximize the fiber

Soy sauce, processed foods, shrimp or fish paste, fish sauce, dips, cheese and gravies had too much salt in them.Use fruits and berries for snacks and dessert, instead of sugary dishes. Keep your food choices low in fat. Try to minimize or reduce the amount of processed foods you eat.Fiber is found in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. In general, the more natural and unprocessed the food, the higher it is in fiber.

8.Go organic

Buying organic meats, eggs, dairy products, fruits, and vegetables means that your food does not contain any harmful pesticides or hormones. While organic products can be more expensive, they are better for your health and the environment. Fresh Organic fruits have the fullest health benefits, particularly from fiber. Choose organic foods whenever you can.

9. Boost your Immune system

A strong immune system spells trouble for cancer Your thymus gland is the key gland for the immune system .The stronger you can make it, the stronger your immune system response to cancer.

10.Get Screened for Cancer Regularly

Screening tests like the colonoscopy and Pap smear can detect abnormal cellular changes before they turn cancerous. The key to their effectiveness, however, is that they are done regularly. Mammograms and other imaging tools are also recommended to detect breast cancer in women.

Cancer prevention is easier than you think. With a few simple lifestyle changes, you can drastically reduce your risk of many types of cancer.

By making Smart food choices, you can protect your health, feel better, and boost your ability to fight off disease.

Life is the most wonderful gift from God, let us make the most out of it.

Hope you found this post useful. If even one person changes after reading this, then I will be the most happiest person on earth.
