Homemade Tomato Soup Recipe

Ingredients needed
Big juicy tomatoes -4
Onion -1 medium chopped
Garlic - 3 cloves chopped
Pepper powder and salt to taste
Butter- 2 tsp
All purpose flour/maida - 3/4 tsp
Bread croutons - (optional)

Heat butter in a pan,fry garlic and onions.
Add chopped tomatoes, 1 cup of water, salt and pressure cook for 1 whistle.
After it cools, puree it in a blender.
Strain the blended mixture in a soup strainer to remove seeds and skin.
Melt a little butter in a pan, add maida to it and cook for a few seconds on low flame. Keep stirring. Maida is added to thicken the soup.
Now add the blended mixture little by little to the above while constantly stirring the maida.
(This is done to prevent formation of lumps)
Reheat the soup, check for salt. Add needed pepper powder and serve it topped with cream and fried bread croutons. Enjoy a bowl of hot steaming homemade soup!!
Note -If u do not have a pressure cooker, you can cook it in an open pan.
This recipe serves 2.

great receipe..easy preparation ...thanks
ReplyDeleteI really like your recipes and presentation ideas!
ReplyDeleteMay I throw in a suggestion here? Instead of using flour to thicken the soup, you could add peeled and chopped carrots in the pressure cooker and blend them along with the tomatoes. That way, you not only get a deep rich colour, but your soup gets enriched with vitamins and fibre. The sweetness of the carrots complements the sourness of the tomatoes.
Can you please let me know what kind of cream I can add ? Is there any brand that i can buy at the store ?
ReplyDeleteDairy cream.I am in India, we get only Amul fresh cream here .It is good.
ReplyDeletelovely !!

ReplyDelete2.in all your recipes tell the number of servings. As I am alone I would like to modify the ingredients to suit one serving.
3.instead of maida can I use corn flour
Venkataraman -
ReplyDeleteNow a days, I am mentioning it in all my recipes, Sir. This was posted long time back.
This recipe serves 2 .You will get only 2 cups as shown in the picture above. So you can prepare the same measurement.
You can use cornflour (cornstarch in US) also instead of maida .
Hi padhu
ReplyDeletetempting tomato soup, excellent presentation & yummy taste!! thanks dear!
thanks, made my cold disappear in seconds....
ReplyDeleteHai padhu,
ReplyDeleteI have been trying many of our receipes and it is coming out really well...but this tomato soup was bit sour and not as thick as they serve in hotel...i have added everything as per your instructions.
Thank you for liking my recipes. Regarding your doubts - Soup might be sour because of the type of tomatoes used. You must use fully ripe, juicy tomatoes preferable Bangalore tomatoes. If you want a thick soup, dilute a tsp cornflour with little water, add to the soup and boil it.The soup will thicken. Since maida, cornflour is not good for health, I have added very less. If fact I skip that when preparing for kids.
DeleteHi Padhu. I like all your recipes. I checkout your posts first before
ReplyDeleteI try with any new recipes. Please let me know if I can use anything other than maida?
Thank you so much Saraswathi. You can add wheat flour also.
DeletePadhu you are the go to girl before I try any recipes.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately curry leaves are not so readily available in canberra.keep up the excellent work.thank you
Hi padhu ji I have been trying out your recipes for soup and they taste wonderful I just want to mention that I have replaced maida with grinded ots it thickens the soup and is healthy too
