   Sambar powder - 2 tsp

   For grinding

   Grated coconut - 1/4 cup

Fried gram (Pottukadalai) or rice flour -1 1/2 tsp (used for thickening)

   For the seasoning

   Oil -2 tsp

   Urad dal -1 tsp
   Red Chillies -2
   Hing - a pinch
   Curry leaves - few

Grind grated coconut, cumin seeds (jeera) and fried gram to a smooth paste. Fried gram is used for thickening the kootu. If you do not have fried gram, you can use a tsp of rice flour.

How to prepare Noolkol kootu

In a cooker or pressure pan, add chopped noolkol, soaked dal, sambar powder, salt needed, turmeric powder, 3/4 cup of water and pressure cook for 3 whistles. (Those who do not have cooker can cook covered in a pan. It will take a longer time than pressure cooker, that's all.)
