Onion Tomato Gravy – Side dish for Idly dosa and chapati

onion tomato gravyJust replace the eyes with small carrot rounds, I bet your kids will not say “no” to this tortoise idly

This is one of the simplest, easiest gravy which goes well with idly ,dosa and roti. All you need is just 10 minutes to prepare this .So let us go to this quick and easy side dish for idly, dosa and roti.

Ingredients needed

Onion – 1 finely chopped
Tomato – 3 big juicy one
Green Chillies – 2-3 finely chopped
Sambar Powder – 1 tsp
Oil – 3 tsp
Salt to taste

For the seasoning

Mustard -1/2 tsp
Curry leaves -little

Method

Heat 3 tsp of oil, add the ingredients for seasoning, when mustard splutters, add onions and fry till they turn translucent.

Add green chillies, chopped tomatoes, sambar powder, needed salt and cook for a few minutes till tomatoes turn mushy.

Add half a cup of water and bring it to boil.

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with idly ,dosa or chapati

    Hi Padhu…I tried this yesterday..It was good. Any idea to reduce the tomato skin (since it was interrupting) ? Please let me know which one of the following idea will work,

    1. Blanch and remove the outer skin
    2. Or simple put all tomatoes in mixer, beat it hard, And take only the tomato essense.
