Coconut Chutney with Red chillies

Coconut Chutney is a perfect accompaniment with Idli, dosa, uthappam and pongal. It is commonly prepared for breakfast in South India and is one of the easiest chutney recipe. Today we will learn how to make coconut chutney following this easy recipe.

Ingredients needed


Grated coconut – 3/4 cup (use fresh coconut)
Red chilli – 5
Garlic – 1 – 2 cloves (optional)
Fried gram (pottu kadalai) -1 1/2 tbsp
Tamarind – a small piece or a little paste

For the seasoning

Oil – 2 tsp
Mustard – 1 tsp
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – few

Method

Grind grated coconut, red chillies, garlic, fried gram, tamarind and salt together, adding little water. Do not grind it very finely. It should be a little coarse.

Then heat oil, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add urad dal and curry leaves.When dal starts turning golden brown, pour it over the chutney.

Enjoy with idli, dosa , ven pongal, uthappam and even upma.
