November 10, 2016 by PadhuSankar 2 Comments

Everyone loves oats as it is easy to cook and is very versatile. I love to have oats for lunch as oats is packed with fiber and keeps you feeling fuller longer thus preventing you from snacking in between meals. The other day, I made my favorite curd rice with oats for lunch. As I love my lunch to be colorful, I added fresh fruits and vegetables to it. Needless to say it was very delicious. Today we will learn how to make curd oats following this easy recipe.

Curd Oats-Oats with Yogurt

 Prep Time : 5 mins

 Cook Time : 10 mins
 Serves:1-2
 Recipe Category: Lunch-Oats
 Recipe Cuisine: Indian
 Author:Padhu Sankar

   Ingredients needed

Rolled Oats* – 1/2 cup (refer notes)
   Curd – 1/2 – 3/4 cup
   Milk – 3/4 cup
   Carrot – 1
   Tomato – 1 (seeded)
   Pineapple – 1/3-1/2 cup chopped
   Salt needed

   For the seasoning

   Oil – 1 tsp
   Mustard seeds – 3/4 tsp
Green chillies – 1 finely chopped
Ginger – 3/4 tsp finely chopped
   Curry leaves – a sprig

   For Garnishing

Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp finely chopped

Preparation

Chop all the vegetables and fruits into small pieces. I have added carrot, tomato and pineapple. You can add finely chopped bell pepper also.

In a sauce pan, bring 1 1/4 cup of  water to boil. Then reduce the heat and add the oats.

Cook stirring until the water is absorbed and the oats becomes tender. If not, add more water and cook until soft.  Leave it to cool.

Then add milk (lukewarm) and mix well. Then add plain yogurt/curd (use low fat yogurt for weight loss) and a little salt.

Thayir Oats Bath

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add ginger, green chilli and curry leaves. Saute for a few seconds and add chopped carrot.

Saute for 2-3 seconds and add to the oats curd mixture.

Add chopped tomatoes, pineapple, capsicum or any colored bell pepper (if you like).

Mix well, garnish with coriander leaves and enjoy!!

Note – Rolled oats are also called old-fashioned oats which is more healthier than instant oats. If you cannot get rolled oats, you can use instant oats. I have added  1 1/4 cup of water for cooking rolled oats. If using instant oats, reduce the quantity of water.

Instead of pineapple, you can add pomegranates or green seedless grapes. But pineapple with curd oats is a heavenly combo.
