Oats Kozhukattai-Oats Vegetable Kara Kolukattai Recipe-Steamed Oats Dumplings

Oats, as we know is a good source of dietary fiber. It contains both soluble and insoluble fibers. According to researches, including oats in our diet can reduce high cholesterol significantly. I have written a lot about oats, so do not want to bore you with the same thing again and again. Oats kozhukatai is very easy to make, healthy and filling. I have added carrot to make it more nutritious. You can add cooked green peas or grated beetroot (instead of carrot) to make it colorful and nutritious. It takes only 20 minutes to prepare this oats kozhukattai. You can make these for breakfast, dinner or serve these nutritious oats dumplings to kids after they return from school. Today we will learn how to make Oats Pidi Kozhukattai following this easy recipe with step wise pictures.

 Cook Time : 15 mins 
 Yields: 9 Oats Kozhukattais

   Ingredients needed

   Quick Cooking Oats -1 cup
   Onion -1/2 cup finely chopped
   Green chilli – 1 finely chopped
   Grated carrot – 1/4 cup
   Grated coconut – 1/4 cup
   Salt as needed

   For the seasoning

   Oil -1 tbsp
   Mustard seeds -1 tsp
   Urad dal -1 tsp
   Hing – a pinch
   Curry leaves – a sprig

Preparation


Dry roast oats for 2-3 minutes and powder it coarsely.

Grate carrots and keep it ready. Finely chop green chillies and onions.

Method 


Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add urad dal, hing and curry leaves. When dal turns golden brown, add onions and saute until it turns transparent.

Add green chillies, grated carrot and saute for a few more minutes.

Then add grated coconut and saute for another 2-3 seconds.

Oats Kara Kolukattai

Add oats, 1/2 cup of water, salt needed and cook for a few more seconds. Remove from heat and leave it to cool. When it is warm, make oval shaped dumplings/balls out of it. If you cannot make balls, sprinkle little water and try again.

Steam the Oats Kolukattais for 10 minutes in a steamer or idli cooker. I used tupperware steam it to steam the oats kozhukattai.

Oats Vegetable Kara Kolukattai Recipe

Serve hot with tomato chutney or kara chutney or onion chutney or bell pepper chutney.

Note – Should be served hot.
