Potato Gravy – Potato recipe

August 4, 2010 by PadhuSankar 62 Comments

This Potato gravy is a very simple and quick recipe which goes well with roti and pooris. I prepare this as a side dish not only for roti but also for peas pulav, vegetable pulav and vegetable biriyani. My children love this (of course they love anything with potatoes). Do try this simple easy recipe and you will love it. Today we will learn to make a quick gravy with potatoes.

Quick Potato Gravy for Chapati

Quick Potato Gravy

 Cook Time : 15 mins

   Onion – 2 medium size
Tomatoes – 4 (ripe and juicy ones)
   Garlic – 3 cloves
   Ginger – 1 inch piece
   Green chillies – 1
Cashew nuts – 1 tbsp ( soak it in hot water)
   Salt needed

Oil – 1 1/2 tbsp for sauteing potatoes

   Spice Powder

   Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Chilli powder – 3/4 tsp or as required
   Coriander powder – 2 tsp
   Cumin powder/jeera powder – 1 tsp
Garam Masala powder – 1/2 tsp

   For the seasoning

   Oil – 2 tbsp
   Cumin seeds/Jeera seeds – 1 tsp

Preparation

Pressure cook potatoes, peel its skin and cut it into cubes.

Heat 1 1/2 tbsp of oil and saute potatoes well for 5-6 minutes. Keep aside (You do not have to roast it).

Grind onion, tomatoes, garlic, ginger, green chillies, cashew nuts to a fine paste. Keep aside.

Method

Heat a tbsp of oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, when it sizzles, add the ground paste, turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder and needed salt.

Cook on medium heat for 5-6 minutes or until the raw flavor of the paste goes.

Then add the sauteed potatoes, a cup of water and simmer for 5 minutes till everything gets blended well.

Garnish with coriander leaves.

Potato gravy is ready to be served. It can be served with chapati, poori, vegetable pulao, jeera pulao, veg biryani, ghee rice and even arisi paruppu sadam.

You can add just boiled potatoes but if you saute it and add, the gravy is more tasty. That's all.
