Easy Chocolate Cake Recipe with step wise pictures below-
Preparation
Mix well or sieve all purpose flour (maida), baking soda, baking powder and salt together.
Grease and flour the baking pans or grease and then line the pans with parchment paper.
Preheat the oven at 180 degree C for 15 minutes.
Keep all the ingredients ready.
Method
In a bowl, add powdered sugar.
Then add all purpose flour (mixed with baking powder, baking soda and salt)
Add cocoa powder and mix well with a wire whisk. Our dry ingredient is ready.
In another bowl, whisk eggs, then add warm water.
Add milk (should be lukewarm) and oil to the egg mixture.
Add vanilla essence and whisk everything together. Wet ingredient is ready.
Both the dry ingredients and wet ingredients are ready. Now add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients.
Stir or mix until well combined. There should be no lumps. The batter will be watery.

Pour it into the prepared pan up to 3/4th and bake at 180 degree C for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Remove from oven and let it cool for 10 minutes. Then remove the cake from their pans and leave it to cool completely. Do not be in a hurry to cut the cake.
Notes-Use the middle rack for baking. I used 6*6 square pan and a 6 1/2*4 1/2 inch rectangular pan. You can use any baking pan but make sure that you do not fill up to the brim of the pan. Fill only a little above half.

DeleteHi padhu,
ReplyDeleteI got my otg a few days back and this is my first attempt at baking. I halved all the ingredients and increased the baking time by another 5 min. The cake was perfect . Less sugary and sans butter healthy too.
Thanks for sharing your hard work.
I tried this cake with atta ie whole wheat flour. Came out well. Texture was more crumbly . Needs care when we remove it from the pan . I use glass bakeware problem may not be there in other moulds.
ReplyDeleteJust want to know how all purpose flour which is 13/4 cup is only 245 gms whereas sugar 2 cups is 400 gms???. can you please explain this to me?? why is the measurement different?? ideally 13/4 cup should be around 375 gms if 2 cups is 400 gms right???
ReplyDeleteThe texture of each is different.Flour is fine powder, sugar is granules etc
DeleteHi Padhu.. Have been making this frequently and my daughter loves it a lot !

Padhu, the cake is superb
ReplyDeleteHi.. Can we try this with micro grill combi without preheat
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot. Very nice recipe. Mild sweet cake. I used 50gm cocoa powder, still happy with results. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!
Baked for the first time. Superb recipe. Used 50gm cocoa powder, yet great results. Mildly sweet cake. Enjoyed baking and eating. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe central part of my cake was wet/not cooked till very after the outer part was cooked. Any reason?
The cake was not for any special occassion. So, I actually cut the outer part of cake, and re-bake the left inner part.
Please suggest what can be done to bake better next time.
While transferring the cake batter to the baking pan, make sure that you fill the pan only up to 1/2 or 2/3.Also tap the cake pan few times for the batter to settle evenly and to eliminate air bubbles from cake batter.
DeleteThis is the best chocolate cake I've made. The texture and taste are great. The kids just loved it. Your Banana bread and whole wheat biscuit recipes are a staple in my house. Everybody loves them.
ReplyDeleteHow many servings does this make ? planning to bake this for my guy's bday :D looks easy and yumm

DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI have tried your Vanilla cake in cooker and it was awesome.
Can you tell me the cup measure for milk, water & oil as I don't have standard cup but I don't small weighing balance. Also can we use groundnut oil or butter.
Happy to know that you liked my vanilla cake. Kindly check the ingredients list. I have given only cup measurements. You should not use groundnut oil. You must use only flavorless oil. I suggest you to try the recipe as mentioned for best results.
Deletehi, when you mean 1 cup of milk and water and 1/2 cupof oil, how much would that be in ML?
ReplyDeleteI use standard measuring spoons and cups.Check my measuring spoons and cups .
DeleteCan u plz tell amount of cocoa in terms of measuring cups (75gm= ?cup)
ReplyDelete3/4 cup or 75 grams unsweetened cocoa powder.
DeleteHi Padhu.... I m new to baking like from scratch u can say so.... I tried ur chocolate cake... N it was yummy hit.... It really boosted my confidence... Thanks dear
ReplyDeleteIf I'm using half of these ingredients, what should be the baking temperature and time
ReplyDeleteThe temperature will remain the same but the time to get baked will be less. It will differ according to different ovens. You have to keep an eye while baking for the first time to find out the time.
DeleteAhh, wish I had read the comments. I used groundnut oil and the cake smells the oil. Otherwise the texture came out super well as i wanted. Next time will try with butter or any refined oils.
ReplyDeletehi Padhu
ReplyDeleteCan u make muffins with this recipe...bake time shall change if u dooo
Hi Padhu, Your blog is very informative and useful. Got a small doubt, Can we use Sathumaavu instead of all purpose flour for this cake!
ReplyDeleteNo. You can try substituting half of it with sathumaavu.
DeleteTried this for my daughter's B-Day and it came out perfect. It was less sweet, more chocolate-y and similar to brownie. Will definitely make again! Thanks
