I am working overtime this Diwali to make your Diwali cooking experience, a very  happy and delightful one. This easy and traditional coconut laddu needs just 3 ingredients- coconut, milk, and sugar. Anyone, even beginners can try this with ease. I have also given you ideas on how to decorate the laddus (any laddus) for kids. I am sure that it would be great fun for the kids to help in making these and also eat. I want you to enjoy the smiles and happiness you get from your kids when you present these lovely looking laddus. Though I have decorated coconut laddus, you can do this with any laddus. (see links of all laddus below). All you need is a few dry fruits and nuts for decoration. Today we will learn how to make Coconut Ladoo following this easy recipe with step wise pictures.

Coconut Ladoo-How to prepare Coconut Laddu

Coconut Laddu-Nariyal Ke Ladoo

 Prep Time : 10 mins

 Cook Time : 20 mins
 Yields: 5-6 Laddus
 Recipe Category: Dessert-Diwali Sweet
 Recipe Cuisine: Indian
 Author:Padhu Sankar

   Ingredients needed

Fresh Coconut grated -1 cup (use mature ones)
   Milk – 1 1/4 cup
   Sugar -1/4 cup
   Cardamom powder -1/4 tsp
   Ghee -1 tsp

Preparation

Grated coconut and keep it ready. You can use desiccated coconut also.

Method

Heat a tsp of ghee and fry the grated coconut slightly.

Then add milk and cook on medium low until all the milk is absorbed. Keep stirring frequently to avoid the milk from getting burnt. You can use condensed milk also instead of milk. (in that case, you can avoid sugar)

nariyal ke ladoo preparation

When all the milk is absorbed, add sugar. The mixture gets a little diluted once you add sugar.

How to make Coconut Laddu

Keep cooking on low flame for some more time until the mixture becomes sticky and you are able to make balls out of it. The mixture will also leave the sides of the pan.

Once it cools slightly, grease your hands with a little ghee and make even sized balls out of it. Delicious Coconut laddu is ready. You can engage your kids also in making these balls. Ensure that the mixture is warm before allowing them to shape laddus.

    Hello Padhu,
My search for a simple coconut recipe ends here. Loved this recipe and the simplicity of ingredients. I have a query. If fresh coconut is not available, can it be substituted be desiccated coconut?
    Thanks,
    Namita

It doesn't say what to do with the cardamom powder … I am assuming you add it when you add the milk?

If using condensed milk, wats the measurement for 1 cup coconut?

If using condensed milk, you can skip milk and sugar. You can use 1 tin (400 ml) for 4 cups of tightly packed grated coconut. You must cook both together on low heat.
